Telangana TDP is going through a downward spiral. Even before it come to terms with the GHMC poll debacle, it got a shocker in form of party floor leader in Telangana Errabelli Dayakar Rao who changed his loyalties and jumped into ruling TRS.
Errabelli stated that Telangana TDP would soon be merged into TRS. TDP had won 15 MLAs in 2014 general polls. But it boiled down to six now as 9 others are into TRS. Errabelli is stating that two to three more MLAs would also join the bandwagon soon.
Now, these TDP MLAs, who defied anti-defection law, are contemplating to state that T-TDP is being merged into TRS. Since two-thirds of majority is in favour of TRS, they’re smartly making moves to make this as a merger. Apparently all these MLAs are planning to make a statement in unison in the budget session of the Assembly that they merging party into TRS. They’re planning to give a letter to speaker on the same.
Meanwhile, TDP smartly played its card by suspending Errabelli who was its floor leader. TDP is arguing that now that Errabelli is suspended form the party and no longer a party floor leader, TDP states that he is not eligible to merge the party. It needs to be seen how TDP and TRS going to battle it out this issue.
Not long ago, the situation was more or less same in the issue of MLCs. Soon after the formation of the new state of Telangana, 5 MLCs out of Seven TDP MLCs in Telangana have joined TRS. In fact, they had given in written to Legislative Council chairman Swamy Goud that they merged TDP into TRS and Swamy Goud had approved it. Will the same repeat for MLAs or will TDP able to avert it?
