Taking titles of their elders is a tradition followed from years by successors of film stars. Walking in the same lines, now Akhil Akkineni is coming up with “Mr Majnu”, taking a queue from Nagarjuna’s “Majnu”, directed by Dasari Narayana Rao.
Actually the first promo of “Mr Majnu” promises Akhil as a big playboy who doesn’t want to miss any Miss in London. And his romance with many foreign girls got highlighted in the name of Devadas’ grandson and Manmadhudu’s heir. But frankly speaking, some hardcore movie lovers felt that there is no connection between the teaser and title of the film.
‘Majnu’ is the word derived from popular Layla-Majnu story belonging to the Arabic tales from the 6th century. Majnu was deeply in love with Layla and feels shattered after her parents forcibly separate her from him and marries her off to a rich person. Later, Layla falls sicks and dies, after which Majnu also weeps at her grave and dies.
When everyone is expecting such an intense love story from Akhil, this funny playboy act is a little jerky. Something relatable to the title would have worked better, though cinema lovers don’t expect a serious failure love story of the Akkineni lad on the silver screen.
