Movie Review

Alludu Seenu is the launch vehicle of Bellamkoda Suresh’s son Srinivas. It is a high budget film directed by V.V. Vinayak who uses every trick in the book to make this a commercial entertainer.

What is it about?

Seenu (Srinivas) is a street smart guy who makes a living by conning others. He takes care of his uncle Narasimha (Prakash Raj). Seenu and Narasimha come to Hyderabad to make a living. Seenu sees a man called Bhai (Prakash Raj) who exactly looks like Narasimha. Seenu uses Narasimha and cheat people for money. He also falls in love with Bhai’s daughter Anjali (Samantha).

Performances:

Srinivas:
Srinivas is a good dancer and also did well in action sequences. He did an okay job for a first timer. He took up the challenge of standing against seasoned actors and looked confident amid all of them. However he should focus more on his expressions.

Samantha: Samantha has no big role to play in this movie. She sizzled in the songs and didn’t mind wearing revealing outfits throughout the film.

Others: Prakash Raj did duel role in this film. He is good as Bhai and is a bit over the board in the role of Narasimha. Brahmanandam once again played the role of a person who gets conned by the hero and his associates. Despite getting repetitive he excelled with his trademark expressions. Pradeep Rawat, Raghu Babu and others did their bit. And yes there is Tamanna who did the first item number of her career.

Technicalities:

Direction: V.V. Vinayak plays it safe by sticking to the commercial formula. He made sure that this film is a decent launch pad for the new hero. This being a debut film of Srinivas, one would expect Vinayak to come up with some variety to offer. Vinayak is too reluctant to come out of his comfort zone.

Others: The film has rich production values. The film is so lavish and on par with that of any top hero’s movie. Cinematography is good. Editing is alright. Music is the major asset to this film. Songs are well composed and well shot too. Ace writers have worked on the script but they did a mediocre job as a team.

Thumbs Up:

  • Songs
  • Dance
  • Comedy

Thumbs Down:

  • Weak Story
  • Routine scenes

Analysis:

Alludu Seenu is a brand Vinayak’s film that is targeted at the entertainment loving audience. There are some comedy scenes that are genuinely funny, but that is not just enough for a film to stay afloat at the box office. Vinayak did everything to please the masses. There is lots of grandeur, lots of action, lots of glamour, but it lacks the most essential one, a strong script.

First half of the film starts off on an okay note and gets interesting after the protagonist start using villain’s name to make money. Love track between Samantha and Srinivas is not at all engaging. Movie moves at a fast pace and that is one of its advantages. Second half of the film has so many scenes inspired from various hit movies of recent times.

Alludu Seenu has good songs and a couple of good comedy scenes in the second half. It is an average entertainer with absolutely nothing novel to offer. This film is strictly not for audience who look for variety. It is a formulaic mass entertainer that will have to bank heavily on the brand name of Vinayak and other commercial elements to click at the box office.

Verdict: Grand Debut with a Bland Script!
