Usha Jadhav, famous with films Veerappan, Dhag, Traffic Signal, has spoken out to reveal an instance when she was directly instructed to sleep with producer, or director or both, to bag a chance to act in a film.
Usha, in a recent BBC documentary, talked about the ugly incident where she was told to give something in return if she wants to be part of a film. When the actress denied of having any money, the other person said, ‘No, no, no, no. It;s not about money, it’s about you sleeping with, may be producer, or director, it can be both too.’ she recalled.
Actress Radhika Apte too participated in the documentary and she already shared her experiences in film industry to bag roles and how she faced the casting couch problem. Apart from these two actresses, an young aspiring actress who lost her dreams of acting in Bollywood films after her first meet with a casting agent or ‘coordinator’ took part in the documentary. The casting agent told her, she should be happy to have sex as and when possible, and embrace her sexuality, being an actress.
“He touched me wherever he wanted, he kissed me wherever he wanted and I was shocked. He put his hand inside my clothes So I asked him to stop and he said, ‘Do you know what, if you really want to work in this industry I don’t think you’ve got the right attitude.” She said.
On the other side, actors like Ranbir Kapoor deny having any such experiences in their film career, there are more and more actresses and aspiring actresses coming out each day saying #metoo. There are some senior actors and politicians too, taking sides on this casting couch issue.
