Balupu Movie Review – 3.25/5

Ravi (Raviteja), a bank recovery agent lives with his father Nana (Prakashraj) in Bangalore. Nana hopes to get his son married to a beautiful girl and Ravi comes accross Shruthi (Shruthi Hasan) and her uncle Crazy Mohan (Brahmi) who cheats the people around them with silly acts. When Ravi decides to teach a lesson to them, Shruti falls for him. Both the couple�s parents arrange for their engagement and Vizag Purna (Ashutosh Rana) enters the scenes revealing the actual identities of Ravi and Nana as Shankar and Nanaji. What is their flashback? Who is Anjali revealed by Vizag Purna, forms the rest of the story.

Ravi Teja as always delivers an energetic performance and with his typical style of dialogue delivery, Ravi Teja effortlessly engages the audiences. He dances with unmatched energy.

Shruti Haasan looks glamorous in the movie and she has pleasing screen presence. She sizzled in the songs and has proved that she can pull of glam doll roles well.

Anjali with an innocence in her role as a doctor managed to do the most impressive job. Her role is crucial part of the film and the song Ninnu Chusina was shot well.

Brahmanandam strikes equally and in fact he is an asset for the film. Crazy Mohan role in Balupu is one of his best in the recent times. Prakashraj plays his part earnestly while Adivi Sesh, Ashuthosh Rana leaves a lasting impact. Thagubothu Ramesh is okay but Ali�s comedy looked forced.

Jayanan Vincent camera works is good with colorful visuals. Thaman�s musical though not chartbusters, they make a decent listen. However the background score is loud. While the direction is good, screenplay is impressive in the first half. Editing could have been better in the second half. Dialogues are okay and might work with masses.

Production values are rich.

Ravi Teja, Shruti Haasan and Brahmanandam comedy scenes are hilarious. Ravi Teja, Brahmi scenes have always worked on-screens and this time Shruti joins the duo. The Haasan girl appears in ultra glamorous outfits.

Brahmanandam is an asset for the film. His dances and antics on Gangnam style and Dil Jamping Japak tracks along with leads, followed by Iddarammayilatho spoof dialogue (Matallev Matladukovdallev) are sure to leave you in splits. The comedy is sensibly paced in the first half.

The pre-inteval portions are well shot with a good twist raising expectations on the second half. Emotional scenes are high in the second half and the film moves on a predictable note in the latter half. However, the pre-climax scenes involving Ravi Teja, Brahmi are hilarious and highly entertaining. Balupu follows regular commercial movie template with a routine storyline, yet Gopichand Malineni and his team makes it fun and entertaining.
