BJP is planning to field Purandeswari!

Former junior HRD Minister in UPA and ex Lok Sabha MP from Vizag, Daggubati Purandeswari, who is presently in BJP, is likely to be in fray for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The top brass of BJP is toying with the idea of fielding Purandeswari from Karantaka state where the party has considerable hold compared to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. Out of the four Rajya Sabha positions from Karantaka, BJP is planning to field Purandeswari in one of the four seats.

Although Purandeswari crossed to BJP from Congress, Modi government wants to elevate Purandeswari within the party after considering her work to strengthen the party internally in AP. Since she happens to be the daughter of legendary actor and TDP founder NT Rama Rao, BJP wants to take her into Cabinet after winning the next general elections of 2019.

Popular as ‘Southern’ Sushma Swaraj, Purandeswari has her own charm in AP. She is well-read and has good hold on several issues that made her one of the promising politicians. BJP wants to elevate Purandeswari in order to gain strength within AP.

Purandeswari and Daggubati clan’s family rift with ally Chandrababu Naidu is one of the many reasons why BJP wants to field Purandeswari in Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka instead of fielding from AP either for Lok Sabha or Rajya Saba.

Already in 2014, Purandeswari had contested for Rajampet Lok Sabha seat against YSRCP with the support of TDP. However, she lost to YSRCP’s Midhun Reddy. Though she sought Vizag seat, BJP couldn’t offer her as it had to accommodate BJP’s leader Hari Babu from Vizag who managed to win against former CM and late YSR’s wife Vijayamma.
