A major tragedy has struck a boat carrying 40 people in Godavari river in East Godavari district. The tragedy took place between 4.30 PM to 5 PM near Manturu of Devipatnam Mandal in East Godavari district. Locals suspected that huge wind turned the boat around causing in its sinking. While 5 of the 40 managed to swim and came to the shore, 35 others are reportedly missing (at 8 PM) today.
It is heard that a wedding group was traveling in the boat while the full details are still awaited. The rescue operations are currently on. NDRF has stepped into the action while higher officials are monitoring the situation.
Khaja, who operates the boat, surrendered before Devipatnam police. Cops have booked a case of negligence and probing the matter.
Just 4 days ago, a fire broke in a boat in Godavari while there were no causalities. Even before one come to terms with it, the fresh tragedy of capsizing of a boat carrying wedding troupe come as a huge shocker.
