Social media was flooded with condolence messages from film stars, fans, politicians and noted personalities cutting across fields following the death of legendary actress Sridevi, needless to say the tweets express grief.
However, a tweet from the Indian National Congress party has received severe backlash for allegedly adding ‘politics’ to the condolence message, in which the party highlighted that ‘UPA govt. awarded the Padma Shri to Sridevi’.
“We regret to hear about the passing away of Sridevi. An actor par excellence. A legend who will continue to live in our hearts through her stellar body of work. Our deepest condolences to her loved ones. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the UPA Govt in 2013,” INC India tweeted.
As soon the tweet surfaced, netizens slammed the Congress party saying they tried to play politics on Sridevi’s death. Some even pointed out that it is the Govt. of India that presents Padma awards and not the UPA govt. Many alleged that the Congress tried to gain sympathy out of Sridevi’s death.
In the aftermath of the criticism on Twitter, INC India edited out its tweet and removed the ‘She was awarded the Padma Shri by the UPA Govt in 2013’ part.
