Dravid Gives Up 25 Lakhs, Wins Hearts

More than for his on-field achievements, Cricket legend Rahul Dravid is respected for his off-field character. ‘The Wall’, as he is popularly known, has once again displayed great character by putting his colleagues over his personal gain, and won immense respect from the Cricket fraternity.

BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has recently announced huge cash rewards for players as well as coaching staff for the ICC U-19 World Cup win. As the Head Coach of U-19 India team, Dravid was announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh, whereas the remaining support staff was awarded Rs 20 lakh each.

Reportedly, Dravid objected to him being awarded higher prize than his colleagues and voluntary gave up half of his cash prize (Rs 25 lakhs) to ensure that everybody in the coaching staff of U-19 team get an equal sum.

He reportedly informed the Board that everyone in the support staff contributed as much as he did for the U-19 team, and hence they deserve equal pay as his. Dravid’s gesture of sharing the credit as well as cash reward with his subordinates shocked the Board, and also won massive respect for him.
