While we are still writing articles on awareness and openness of women, a woman swimmer from China won many people with her quick and open words during a candid interview with a reporter at ongoing Rio Olympics.
Fu Yuahui is a Chinese backstroke specialist got qualified for the women’s 100 metre backstroke finals and the 20 year old swimmer was seen squatting on floor after a 4×100 metre relay. The reporter asked if her stomach hurt a lot, Fu was quick to say that her period came last night and she is really very tired right at that moment.
Fu further says that can’t be an excuse, but still she feels that was not the best swim she should have given. While a woman on her periods cannot enter temples, neither she cannot buy her sanitary without a newspaper wrap and when the topic itself is still forbidden and taboo at many corners in this world, an athlete opening up on periods is much refreshing.
