Police said that Krishna had promised his girlfriend staying in Chennai that he would take her to Mumbai for a trip. As he did not have sufficient money, Vamsi wanted to postpone the trip by creating emergency situation at the airports. As part of the plan, he sent threat mail to Mumbai police.

Based on the mail, police traced the accused through the IP address. He used a cyber cafe to email and posed as a female so that he would not be identified.
