Hyderabad not to get UT status

There had been talks in the political circles that Hyderabad could be declared as an Union Territory as a part of the solution to the Telangana issue.

The Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde recently remarked that this is one proposal to which the central government has failed to apply its mind. The minister said this while he was speaking at the recent monthly review of the home ministry. The minister revealed that the central government as receiving various suggestions, recommendations and proposals on the issue of granting separate statehood to Telangana. But despite such pouring in of ideas from different interest groups, the centre has not yet discussed this particular proposal of declaring Hyderabad as an Union Territory.

He added that the Centre will take a decision on this issue by January 28, which is also the deadline which has been fixed for taking the final call on the Telangana issue. He also said that nothing was decided at the all-party meeting as they could not reach at any conclusion. But the views of all the political parties were heard at that meeting.

He assured that the indecision over Telangana would end very soon as the Centre will finally take a definite decision on January 28.
