India Successfully Launches 100th Satellite

India’s space agency, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) successfully launched its 100th satellite ‘Cartosat-2 Series’ on Friday, creating history in international space arena and thus giving a proud moment for all Indians.

The launch happened from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota Island, Andhra Pradesh. ISRO used PSLV-C40 launch vehicle that carried 31 satellites, out of which three are of India and 28 of six other countries – Canada, Finland, France, Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States. The weather observation ‘Cartosat-2 Series’ satellite was inserted into a 505-kilometre sun-synchronous orbit. In August last year, ISRO suffered a setback when it tried to launch this satellite then.

ISRO scientists said the mission is a unique one as the satellites will be launched in two orbits. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO on the successful launch of India’s 100th satellite.
