Jakkanna Movie Review

Story:

Ganesh/Jakkanna (Sunil) is a young lad who believes that one should go any extent for those who helped him. He puts those words in deeds all of the time. One day, he happens to go to Vishakapatnam where he meets and falls in love with Sahasra (Mannara Chopra). And then he is on a mission to get hold of Bhairaagi (Kabir Dulhan Singh), a monster who creates terror in Vizag, even though nobody saw him. Jakkanna manages to bring him out, but at the scene of confrontation, something unexpected happens. What happens next and how it impacts the story is the rest.

Performances:

Sunil is good in the role of Jakkanna/Ganesh. His comedy timing and that dialogue delivery are his strengths from the days as a comedian. Even though the charm on his face is lost, the remaining abilities are intact. He almost walked through the role effortlessly. Mannara Chopra is all in for glamour in the film where she is the best. She could not even give proper lip movement in sync with the dubbing. Nagineedu is good as always. Kabir Dulhan Singh is an exact fit as a baddie. Sapthagiri track is entertaining at the start but got boring later. 30 years Industry Prudhvi rocked the show as Kattappa. Remaining comedians – Chitram Sreenu, Raghu Karumanchi, Satya, Raja Ravindra, Posani are okay.

Technical Performances:

Vamsi Krishna Akella directed a flop film called Raksha in 2008 and this is a sort of comeback for him. He came up with a routine story and embedded it with forcible comedy which worked in parts. Dialogues are also good but at some places, got overboard due to those extra efforts for rhyming. The first half is good in parts with a good interval bang which creates some excitement. The second half is again a disappointment with entertainment dipping. But then 30 Years Prudhvi as Kattappa brought back it on track. The climax is once more predictable.

Songs composed by Dinesh, have nothing but the glamour fest by Mannara Chopra. The background score is also okay in parts. Ram Prasad’s Camera work is good and colourful with bright colours. Senior Editor MR Varma could have been a lot better. Action choreography by Kanal Kannan is good while Production Values are appropriate.

Plus Points:

Clean Entertainer
Screenplay
Climax

Minus Points:

Slow paced
Predictability

Final Say:

Jakkanna is another routine comedy film from Sunil. It is slightly better from his previous films but still suffers from all that old problems like forcible comedy, mindless punch dialogues, etc. It has to be seen how the film sustains at the box office.
