Finally, actor couple Jeevitha and Dr Rajasekhar dropped their plans to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and decided to stay back in the Congress, for strange reasons.The husband and wife are taking a plunge into the election campaign for Congress in Nellore parliamentary constituency from Monday.
Ironically, the couple announced that they had sunk their differences with their enemy K Chiranjeevi. They explained that they had to come out because they did not like Chirajeevi merging his Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress.“But PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana explained us the background and the reasons for the merger. And we are convinced about the same. We have no differences with Chiranjeevi now,” the couple said.
The reason for Jeevitha and Rajasekhar to stay back in the Congress, however, is different. The BJP leadership was reportedly flooded with complaints from its followers both in India as well as abroad that there would be more damage than good to the party if the couple joined the BJP. And senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu was not convinced about the need for this couple.
In any case, Jeevitha and Rajasekhar got back into the sinking ship. One wonders what they would gain in staying back in the Congress party which is on the verge of collapse in the state. Thus, they may get the notoriety of being iron legs for the party!
