Mahanati, A Remarkable Feat After Arundathi

For two reasons, we don’t see much female centric films in Telugu film industry. One is that drawing audiences will be tougher due to lack of a hero, and other one is that heroines who do such films lost their careers. But on two occasions, all the beliefs are busted.

We have the likes of Vijayasanthi and Soundarya rocking with female centric movies in the 90s and they became superstars in that dominion. But later on, many heroines who have acted in female centric films including Bhumika (Missamma), Laya (Manoharam), Charmi (Anukokunda Oka Roju), Genelia (Katha) to Anjali (Geethanjali), Priyamani (Charulatha) and Trisha (Nayaki) have sparkled only for a while. Only Nayanatara is cashing on that superstardom among all of her contemporaries. Here are the two exceptions, however.

Way back in 2009, when Arundathi was under production, many felt that producers are doing a big mistake. But Anushka Shetty’s wonderful performance as Jejemma under Kodi Ramakrishna’s direction did miracles at the box office. And after nearly a decade, now in 2018, Keerthi Suresh is repeating a similar feat with “Mahanati”. The film is heading to become a colossal hit despite the fact that Keerthi is not even a star heroine at the moment. Though there is Rudramadevi in between, the success of the film is not such magnanimous we have to say.

We have to say that people liked the content of these two films, Arundathi and Mahanati, to the maximum, as they got carried away by various factors (horror then, emotion now) they portrayed. And then, all the credit goes to directors and their other technical crew. Surprisingly both these films have a fair share of VFX that did magic on silver screen.
