UTV Motion Pictures, the popular production and marketing giant from Mumbai has ventured into south films long back. However they are not getting blockbusters here, even though their project looks awesome due to lucrative production values. Recent ‘Anjaan’ too being an UTV venture, we have to find whether they have burnt hands again.
Surya’s mass image in south states like Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka fetched phenomenal openings for Anjaan/Sikander. Also overseas markets witnessed huge slew of audiences running to theatres to catch up this talented actor. Reports indicate that Anjaan minted around 18 Crores gross across the globe from all territories. Despite garnering negative reviews from first day first show itself, Independence Day holiday helped the Surya-Samantha starrer register stunning numbers. This well help UTV recover its investment without any big issues.
Even though there is negative talk about Anjaan, cine lovers have no other flick to catch up at theatres for the next 3 days. Surya’s mass image could easily ho the flick for a week, while reviews about Samantha’s sex-appeal are spreading like wildfire, pulling more crowds to theaters. That will help accumulate around 50 Crores gross easily post this long weekend, say trade pundits.
So there will be no burning of hands literally for this distributor and producer. Earlier Vishal’s Indrudu and Delhi Belly remake Settai haven’t left UTV on a happy note, as both failed to mint bigger numbers though praised as decent movies. The filmmaking giant’s next project is Mahesh-Koratala’s flick in Tollywood, and that might suffice their thirst for a big blockbuster.
