While the life of a sex worker is considered the most tumultuous in a taboo-ridden India, being a sex worker’s child is even more frightfully challenging. In a moving tale of plight and inspiration, a teenage daughter of a sex worker from Mumbai revealed about her rise from being a sex worker’s daughter to a respectable position. The touchingly painful story, which was published on Humans of Bombay Facebook page, has moved everyone to tears.
In her post, the young girl revealed that her mother and her three sisters were looked down upon by their family members after her father’s death and to make their ends meet, her mother turned a sex worker. Soon, her relatives started torturing the girls and that was when her mother sent her daugters to boarding school secretly. Meanwhile, her relatives kept torturing her mother alleging that she sold off her daughters to the flesh trade.
The girls were tortured even at the hostel for being the daughters of a sex worker and after 8 long years, they found their shelter under an NGO called Kranti. Today, the girl works as a teacher at Teach for India and she treats every student as her own sibling as they all came from almost similarly troubled backgrounds. The young girl now says that she has a lot more to do not just for the children but also for the sex workers like her mother.
