Nenu Local Movie Review

Nani who is currently in the best phase of his career is back with Nenu Local. Trinadha Rao Nakkina who scored a hit with Cinema Chupista Maava is the director and the man with the midas touch, Dil Raju produced it. Nani has gone for a bit of makeover with a characterization that is massy yet stylish.

Story :

Babu (Nani) finally clears B. Tech. after a lot of attempts and people starts to question about his next step in life. Babu has no clue about what to do and at that time he bumps into Keerthi (Keerthy Suresh) and falls in love with her in first meeting. He joins MBA to impress Keerthi, who loves her father (Sachin Khedekar) so much. She decides not to get married against her father’s will. How does Babu impress her and get her father’s approval forms the rest of the story. There is also a little twist in the tale involving inspector Siddharth Varma (Naveen Chandra).

Performances:

Nani’s performance is flawless. He has effortlessly switched his style and mannerisms to suit the massy characterization of Babu. He almost single handedly pulled this off with his impeccable comic timing. Keerthy Suresh is not just a pretty face but also can emote. She did well as Keerthi, who is caught between father and lover. Sachin Khedekar is fine as the doting father. Naveen Chandra’s character gives a new dimension to the film. He is good as the sincere and charming lover.

Technicalities:

Trinadha Rao Nakkina once again takes up a plot that is similar to his debut film Cinema Chupista Maava. He follows the same template that he used in CCM where he relied on the comedy and entertainment. Trinadha Rao definitely has command over mass entertainment and this film proves that he isn’t a one film wonder.

Writer Prasanna Kumar who played key role in the success of Cinema Chupista Maava has come up with funny one liners that will tickle the audience. Music by Devi Sri Prasad is an asset. Background score and a couple of songs are pretty impressive. Cinematography is good with vibrant visuals and Editing is slick. Dil Raju’s production values are always top notch.

Thumbs Up:

  • Nani
  • Dialogues
  • First Half
  • Music

Thumbs Down:

  • Weak second half
  • Deja vu feel

Analysis:

Nenu Local is a ‘been there seen that’ kind of film that follows the commercial template of a romance/comedy. Films like these heavily rely upon the fun moments and witty one liners to give that paisa vasool feel to the audience. Director Trinadh and writer Prasanna are successful in making it a decent entertainer.

First half of the film is very humorous with lots of rib tickling comedy episodes. Youth will surely relate to B. Tech. Babu’s character. Besides Nani, his parents characters played by Posani and Eeswari are also entertaining and Tulasi as Keerthi’s mother provides additional bit of fun. Director and writer have realized that that there isn’t much in the story to make the audience glued to the screen and hence have come up with many funny situations to give ample scope for popcorn entertainment.

Interval twist is routine and the film treads the usual path of where the protagonist is given a deadline to make his love successful. Street smartness of Babu character is impressive in parts and seem ridiculous at times. Climax of the film resembles CCM again. Despite the routine script, Nani’s performance, DSP’s music and entertainment quotient makes it a decent watch. It is a no-brainer film that’s sole purpose is to entertain the viewers and it succeeds in doing so.

Verdict: Paisa vasool.
