People Ignore Naidu Call, Make Bandh A Hit!

The day-long bandh call given by the Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi (Committee to achieve special status) supported by the opposition parties hit the normal life in all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh demanding Special Category Status (SCS) for the state.

Activists belonging to SCS Sadhana Samithi, YSRCP, Jaanasena, CPI , CPI(M) and Congress took out huge rallies and stopped traffic on the highways resulting in traffic snarls on all the main highways particularly roads leading to Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and West Bengal.

In Tirupati, the agitators set fire to a motorcycle and disrupted bus services coming out of the bus depots. They stopping buses destined to neighbouring states. However the buses going to and from Tirumala hills have been exempetd from Bandh.

“The Bandh was necessitated because of BJP and TDP who have cheated the people of the state in the name of a special package inlieu of SCS,” Bhumana Karunakara Reddy of YSRCP said in Tirupati.

In Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada theater owners have declared that there will be no movie shows in support to the one day bandh. Schools, colleges and commercial organizations also remained closed. Bus services have been suspended. However trains are plying normally.

Meanwhile Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has urged the activists not to indulge in violence as it would affect the common man on the streets.

He has directed the state police to assist students to attend examinations and other other important assignments.The SCS Sadhana Samithi also urged activists to drop students at their destinations and not to stop school buses during bandh.
