Rajinikanth Mediates between Shankar & Lyca?

We have seen umpteen examples when some so-called ‘perfectionist’ directors frustrate their film producers by postponing the planned release dates and keep carving out their films. This directly results in increase of budget, missing of good release dates, and if at all the film gets negative talk when it finally releases, the producer goes bankrupt.

In the latest case, it is heard that Lyca Productions, the co-producer of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s “Khaidi No.150” and the sole producer of Superstar Rajinikanth’s sci-fi extravaganza, “2.0”, had a huge tiff with director Shankar. And, the reason is release date.

“2.0” was originally planned for Diwali 2017. The release date then shifted to January 2018, and then to Summer 2018, and the latest to August/November 2018. It is heard that unimpressed with the VFX work, Shankar had sought more time and funds from Lyca, which frustrated them as the film had already been postponed multiple times. They wanted to release the film in Summer, but Shankar wanted another 3-4 months time.

Reports further said that Rajinikanth had to intervene to sort out the differences between Shankar and Lyca. He handed over the worldwide rights of his another film, “Kaala” to Lyca, permitted them to release the film in the slot that was booked for “2.0”, and convinced them to give more time to Shankar. Lyca was happy to have got the chance to release a Rajinikanth-starrer, Kaala if not ‘2.0’, and Shankar got time to carve out the film as he had envisioned it.
