Rayudu Movie Review

Story:

Rayudu (Vishal) is like any other young lad, who lives with his doting grandmother, Annamma (Leela) and close friend Maghadeerudu Kokkarako (Soori) in Anantapur. The ripples in their life arrive with Rolex Bachi (RK Suresh), a powerful local thug turned aspiring politician. Rolex Bachi murders mother of Rayudu’s love Bhagyalakshmi (Sri Divya). Rest of the story is how Vishal locks horns with Rolex Bachi to settle the old scores. And then there is a twist connecting Raayudu to the death of Bhagyalakshmi’s mother.

Performances:

Vishal plays yet another tailor made role in Rayudu and walks through it effortlessly. His slang in the film is good as well. Sree Divya impressed with a very bold and powerful role, Bhagya Lakshmi. Soori stole the show as Magadheerudu Kokkorokko as he brings so much of laughs in to the story. Radha Ravi pulled off the Bhairavudu role with lot of conviction. Leela mesmerized in grand mother. RK Suresh is the perfect choice for the baddie role, Rolex Baachi. Marimuthu is good as well and other actors are also fine.

Technical Performances:

Rayudu story is a routine beaten to death story with a rural backdrop. However director Mattiah drive the point home with a good screenplay. The first half is more about setting up the story premise and introducing all the characters. Comedy gets going then. But as story unfolds in the second half as screenplay weakens. But as twists are revealed, that is made up and finally the climax is good as a result.

The dialogues also worked out well for the mass entertainer. Songs are very poor and are mostly speed breakers. However Imman made it up with perfect back ground score. Velraj’s camera work is good and got an authentic feel to the film proceedings. Praveen KL should have been more careful with his scissors. He could have trimmed several scenes in the second half. Action choreography by ANL Arasu is good and production values are appropriate.

Plus Points:

1. Vishal Performance

2. Magadheerudu Kokkorokko

Minus Points:

1. All the songs useless

2. Too much of Tamil nativity

Final Say:

Rayudu is an average mass entertainer. Slow paced second half, badly placed, lot of Tamil nativity and conceived songs are disappointing. Barring all that the film is mostly passable. Go for it if you have nothing to do this weekend!
