Spyder is the biggest disaster in superstar Mahesh Babu’s career, both in theatres and on TV. Some fans of Mahesh and some vested interests, who have nothing to boast of this epic disaster, are now making tall claims that the film’s Tamil version has bagged better TRP than Baahubali 2 Tamil. Well, it is true, but strictly speaking, it is not something worth clapping for.
Premiered on Sun TV, Spyder Tamil version clocked 10.4 TRP whereas Baahubali 2 fetched 10.33 TRP rating. The latter, which is the first and the only non-Tamil industry hit in Tamil Nadu, was premiered on Vijay TV. It is clear that Spyder’s TRP is marginally better than Baahubali 2’s.
Now, coming to the reality, unlike Telugu, where there are 3-4 highly competitive TV channels, there is monopoly of Sun TV in Tamil Nadu. According to the statistics, Sun TV leads its competitors in TN by massive margin, and it is the top most channel in the country. Most of the movies that premiere on Sun TV channel, whether they were good or bad, amass better TRPs compared to even the blockbusters that premiere on other channels.
For ex: Singam 3, which was a disaster at box office, was premiered on Sun TV and it fetched 16 TRP. ‘Mersal’, last year’s biggest Tamil blockbuster, was premiered on Vijay TV, and it recorded just 8.5 TRP!! Such is the monopoly of Sun TV.
So SPYder, which was telecast on Sun TV, getting a marginally better TRP than Baahubali 2 is no big deal say people in the know. But, then, who needs logic, fans only care for records.
