Closely on the heels of a critically and commercially successful biopic on sex bomb of South, Silk Smitha, plans are underway for a biopic on Shakeela, one of the biggest adult stars of South, for that matter, of India. Noted Bollywood actress Richa Chadha has hopped on board to breathe life into the silver screen adaption of Shakeela’s life.
Shakeela, who is a self-confessed fan of Silk Smitha, rose to prominence in South cinema in the ’90s at a time when Silk Smitha was at the peak of her career. She forayed into the film industry at just 16 and went on to act in several adult films of South, predominantly of Malayalam. At her peak, her films used to compete even with the films of Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty at the box office.
Having witnessed the success of Silk Smitha’s biopic, ‘The Dirty Picture’ across the country, plans started very long ago itself to make Shakeela’s biopic. And, the biopic has finally fallen in place with bold and acclaimed actress Richa Chadha (Gangs of Wasseypur, Ramleela, Masaan etc) giving her nod to play the iconic adult star.
The biopic is likely to go on floors in April.
