Ever since legendary actress Sridevi’s funeral received state honours, it has sparked a controversy and many questioned the decision of the government about wrapping India’s flag around her body. Finally, the truth is revealed. Here is how it happened.
Mumbai based activist Anil Galgali has filed a petition to query about the state honor for Sridevi. The government responded to him and explained that they took the decision because Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis used his discretionary powers in the matter.
He filed a petition and sought out the reply from state’s General Administration Department (GAD) regarding the same. The GAD replied that granting the state funeral honours lie in the hands of Chief Minister. A verbal order was received from CM’s office on February 25 and conveyed the same to Mumbai suburban collector and Mumbai police commissioner on February 26. As per the reports, in the last six years, they have granted the state funeral to 41 people and the majority of them belongs to the prominent personalities in politics.
We all know that Sridevi was the recipient of Padma Sri award and as per the orders, the CM has the power to concern the Padma award recipients for the state funeral. The actress died on February 24, due to accidental drowning in Dubai.
