Tollywoo’s 50 = Bollywood’s 100?

Till recently film makers are used to go by hit meters which pointed to films only that scored 100 days or more. In that way tollywood has many sensations like ‘Lavakusa’ and ‘Alluri Seetarama Raju’ to name a few. However all that changed for the past five years and from then on according to new hit meters films are termed hits only when they gross Rs 40-Rs 50 crs. In that way till now tollywood has five sensational hits. They include Ram Charan’s Magadheera, Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Gabbar Singh’, Mahesh Babu’s ‘Dookudu’, Ram Charan’s ‘Racha’ and Allu Arjun’s ‘Julaayi’ and Rajamouli’s ‘Eega’.
However while most of the tollywood film makers are content with rating the film as super hit when it grosses Rs 50crs mark bollywood film makers are busy scoring sensational hits crossing Rs 100crs mark. Now Salman’s latest sensation ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ already crossed Rs 100crs and is in supersonic speed towards Rs 200crs. Many are left wondering whether tollywood film industry can also make Rs 100crs grossers. Some feel it is possible in near future but many feel it is not right comparing bollywood and tollywood industries as such. While bollywood has pan India presence which makes it easier for their stars to cross Rs 100crs easily, for tollywood it would be difficult to do the same.
As such they feel that Rs 50crs grossers in tollywood are equivalent to Rs 100crs grossers in Bollywood. One has to wait and see what will be the reaction of film makers of both industries on these analysis.
