Veerraju to quit MLC; What about Prabhu?

Now that the Telugu Desam Party has come out of the National Democratic Alliance completely, the Bharatiya Janata Party is too cutting off all its links with the TDP one after the other. While the TDP pulled out two of its ministers – P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Y S Chowdary from the Central cabinet, the BJP too asked its two ministers – P Manikyala Rao and Kamineni Srinivas – also to resign from the Chandrababu Naidu cabinet.

Subsequently, senior BJP leader R Lakshmipati also resigned from the post of chairman of the AP Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation, on the ground that it was not ethical on his part to continue in the post after the TDP severed its links with the NDA.The BJP leaders, who have got some nominated posts in temple committees and market committees, are also planning to quit their posts.

Latest information is that firebrand BJP leader Somu Veerrraju is also planning to resign from his MLC post on moral grounds.Veerraju got elected to the legislative council under MLAs’ quota in 2015. Since the BJP has only four MLAs in the Andhra assembly, all the others who voted for him were the TDP MLAs.“Since he got elected by the TDP MLAs, he feels it is not proper to remain indebted to them even after both the parties parted ways. So, he wants to quit the MLC post,” party sources said.

If that is the case, even Union minister for commerce and industry Suresh Prabhu is morally indebted to the TDP. He got elected to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh with the support of the TDP MLAs, as part of the coalition dharma.“If Veerraju wants to quit the MLC seat, then the BJP should ask even Suresh Prabhu to quit the MP seat,” a TDP leader demanded.
