Following the massive global success of Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), the third installment in the franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is all set for a worldwide theatrical release on December 19. Legendary filmmaker James Cameron has been actively promoting the film across multiple countries, extending his campaign well beyond the United States.

As part of the Indian promotions, James Cameron participated in a special virtual interaction with SS Rajamouli, making the event a memorable crossover moment for global cinema lovers. Ahead of the interview, Rajamouli was given the rare opportunity to watch Avatar: Fire and Ash in Hyderabad before its global release. Sharing his experience, Rajamouli praised Cameron’s brilliance and vision, revealing that although he watched the film alone, he is eager to rewatch it in a packed theatre on December 19 to witness audience reactions firsthand.

The conversation began with Cameron thanking Rajamouli for taking time out of his hectic schedule, as the Indian director is currently busy shooting for his ambitious project Varanasi. Rajamouli mentioned that the film has been in production for over a year and will continue for another seven to eight months. Cameron expressed his keen interest in visiting the Varanasi sets to see Rajamouli work his magic in person.

He jokingly remarked, “I’m going to come to your set, SS Rajamouli. You can give me a camera, and I’ll take a few shots for you like a second unit director.” Rajamouli was visibly overwhelmed, stating that it was unheard of for a filmmaker of Cameron’s stature to offer something like this, and said it would be an absolute honour to host him on their sets. He added that not just his team, but the entire Indian film industry would cherish such a moment.

SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, is slated for release in 2027. Meanwhile, James Cameron is gearing up for the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, after which he will move on to Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, scheduled for release in 2029 and 2031 respectively.
