Laila Opens Up About Rare Laughter Disorder Amid Shabdam Promotions
Senior actress Laila, known for her iconic performances in films like Pithamagan, Nandha, and Ullam Ketkumae, has opened up about an unexpected health condition at the age of 44. After staying away from the film industry for several years, Laila recently made a comeback and is currently promoting her latest film, Shabdam.
Laila, originally from Goa, was a prominent face in Tamil and Telugu cinema during the early 2000s. After marrying Iranian businessman Mehdini in 2006, she took a long hiatus from acting. However, she made her return with notable roles in Karthi’s Sardar and Vijay’s upcoming film The GOAT.
During a recent interaction as part of Shabdam promotions, Laila made a surprising revelation about her health. She disclosed that she suffers from a rare laughter disorder, which causes her to laugh uncontrollably at times. If she tries to stop, tears start flowing involuntarily. Recalling a memorable incident from Shivaputrudu, she shared how Vikram once challenged her not to laugh for a minute, but she failed within 30 seconds, leading to a humorous yet frustrating situation on set.
In Shabdam, Laila portrays the character of Nancy alongside Aadhi Pinisetty. Although the film opened on a promising note, it has struggled to maintain momentum at the box office. Shabdam collected approximately ₹3.23 crore net in its first three days but saw a decline in collections from day four. Despite the film’s performance, Laila’s candid confession about her condition has garnered sympathy and support from fans, who admire her honesty and resilience.
