At a public event in Kerala, legendary actor Mammootty finally decided to set the record straight. To everyone’s surprise, he openly introduced the friend who had actually given him the name Mammootty. The audience was not expecting such a personal revelation.

On stage, Mammootty shared a humorous memory from his college days. Back then, he used to tell his friends that his name was Omar Sharif, after the internationally acclaimed actor whom he greatly admired. One day, however, his secret came out in an amusing way—he accidentally dropped his identity card. When his friends saw it, they discovered his real name was Mohammed Kutty. One of them immediately laughed and remarked that he was clearly not Omar Sharif. That moment became a memorable turning point in his life.
