Dhurandhar Lands in Revenue-Sharing Controversy

Dhurandhar has sparked an unprecedented level of public discussion in recent times. Not only did the film emerge as a massive box office success, but it has also gone on to trigger wider geopolitical conversations.

However, the film is now facing an unusual and unexpected situation. Naureen, the wife of SP Chaudhary, has reportedly demanded a share in the film’s revenue.

The controversy stems from the portrayal of SP Chaudhary, a fierce cop who led a task force in Lyari, Karachi. The role was played by Bollywood veteran Sanjay Dutt, whose performance received wide appreciation. According to Naureen, the film not only uses her husband’s identity but also explores alleged connections with Dawood Ibrahim and the underworld—details she claims were never public before. She has now demanded ₹25 crore (in Pakistani currency) from the makers for using his name and story.

Adding to the controversy, some residents from Lyari in Karachi have also reportedly asked the makers to share a significant portion of the film’s profits, arguing that the locality has been prominently featured in the narrative.

That said, such claims are not uncommon when films are inspired by real-life events. In most cases, filmmakers ensure that all legal permissions and clearances are secured beforehand. As a result, these demands are unlikely to have any legal standing, and the makers are not obligated to comply with them.

Despite the noise around these developments, Dhurandhar continues to remain a talking point, both for its cinematic impact and the unexpected controversies surrounding it.
