Suriya 46: Family Entertainer with Ala Vaikunthapuramulo Vibe

Ala Vaikunthapuramulo, starring Allu Arjun and directed by Trivikram, remains one of the most successful traditional Telugu commercial entertainers in recent years. Its mix of music, comedy, and family drama has set a benchmark for many filmmakers. A new project now appears to be drawing comparisons to that film, and it involves Tamil star Suriya.
Suriya’s last outing, Retro, underperformed at the box office. Currently, he is working on two films: Karuppu alongside RJ Balaji, and his first straight Telugu project with director Venky Atluri. Venky Atluri has built a strong track record with non-Telugu stars following the success of Dhanush’s Sir and Dulquer Salmaan’s Lucky Baskhar, raising expectations for his collaboration with Suriya across Tamil and Telugu markets.
The upcoming film stars Suriya and Mamitha Baiju in lead roles and is planned as a lighthearted family entertainer. While no promotional material has been released yet, composer GV Prakash has given the first hint about the film’s tone. During a brief interaction with mamatelugu.com at the IFFI closing ceremony in Goa, GV Prakash revealed that the project, tentatively titled Suriya 46, is shaping up well as a family entertainer.
Asked if the film follows the period-style approach of Sir or Lucky Baskhar, GV Prakash clarified that it is a contemporary story. He added that the film carries a vibe similar to Ala Vaikunthapuramulo, tailored for Suriya.
Suriya 46 is directed by Venky Atluri and features Suriya, Mamitha Baiju, Raveena Tandon, Anil Kapoor, and others. The music is scored by GV Prakash, and the film is produced by Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments.
