10 Dead In Hyd-Kkd Private Travels Bus Accident

10 persons were killed and as many as 30 were injured after a bus fell off a bridge in Khammam district, Telangana in the wee hours of Monday.

The tragedy occurred near Nayakangudem in Kusumanchi mandal of Khammam district when the bus lost control and fell into Nagarjunasagar canal. The bus numbered AP26 TC 9512, belonging to a private travel company, was reportedly on its way from Hyderabad to Kakinada via Khammam.

According to the police report, seven persons were killed on the spot and three died in the hospital because of sustaining severe injuries. Two cranes were brought in to pull out the bus from the canal. Three 108 ambulances were also called in to shift all the injured persons to a government hospital in Khammam. 42 passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the mishap.

The survivors told the police that the negligence of the driver led to the tragic accident. ‘The driver was running the bus at a high speed. He applied sudden brake upon reaching the bridge and it resulted in the bus overturning and falling into the canal,’ said a survivor.

District Collector DS Lokesh Kumar along with other officials has reached the accident spot and supervised the rescue operations. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his AP counterpart Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the accident. The Andhra Pradesh govt. announced Rs 3 lakhs ex-gratia to the family of the deceased.
