On this date in 2006, the then Prince Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri released and created a sensation in not just the actor’s career but also in Tollywood, by becoming the first 40 crore Telugu film and finally ended up as an all-time industry hit. Today, Pokiri celebrates its 10th anniversary.
The film gave a humongous stardom to Mahesh Babu and even transformed him from Prince to Superstar. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, Pokiri was famous for Mahesh’s terrific characterization and performance as Pandu gadu and who can forget those power-packed punch dialogues from Puri’s pen which are still popular in day to day life!
Pokiri celebrated its 100 days run in more than 200 theaters, which was also an unbeatable record during those days. Pokiri was later remade in Tamil, Kannada and even in Bollywood featuring top stars and these remakes repeated the same magic in all these industries.
