
In a tragic accident, at least 14 people were burnt alive and 15 others injured after a private travel bus collided with a tipper truck and caught fire in Markapuram district on Thursday morning, police said.
The incident occurred near Rayavaram around 6:30 a.m., close to a stone quarry. Following the collision, both vehicles were engulfed in flames and completely gutted. At the time of the accident, around 35 passengers were traveling in the bus, which belonged to Harikrishna Travels.
Fifteen injured passengers were immediately shifted to the government hospital in Markapuram. Officials fear that the death toll could rise, as some of the injured remain in critical condition. The victims include women and children. Notably, around ten passengers managed to escape the bus moments after the fire broke out, saving their lives.
The bus was traveling from Hyderabad to Pamuru in Prakasam district, and most of the passengers were residents of Kanigiri and Pamuru. The tipper truck, carrying a load of concrete, was heading towards Markapuram from Chimakurthy.
Upon receiving information, police and fire personnel rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations. Three fire engines were deployed to bring the flames under control. Local MLA K. Narayana Reddy, along with senior officials, visited the spot and supervised relief measures.
The Chief Minister has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and directed officials to submit a detailed report. Transport Minister Manipalli Ramprasad Reddy expressed deep grief over the tragedy and conveyed condolences to the victims’ families, while also instructing authorities to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured.
Minister for IT and Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh also expressed shock over the loss of lives and assured that the government would extend all necessary support to the affected families.
