Starring charmi, Satyadev and others
Director: Puri Jagannadh
Producer: C Kalyan and Charmi
Music: Sunil Kashyap
Rating: 2.5/5
Story:
Jyothi Lakshmi (Charmi) is a sex worker in Gangubhai company run by Narayana Patwari (Ajay Gosh). Jyothi Lakshmi is a very popular girl in the company. One day, Satya (Satyadev) comes there searching her. He used to come for her daily spending lot of money but never even touches her. He alway force her to come out of the mess and settle down in life marrying him. Jyothi Lakshmi first takes it light but later agrees to him. Satya marries Jyothi Lakshmi with the help of his sister and police. However the miscreants of her past come haunting them. Rest of the story is how Jyothi Lakshmi and many such girls are fred from Narayana Patwari.
Performances:
The entire story revolves around Charmi and rightly she gave her 100% to the role. She seem to have lost so much of weight for the character. She excelled in the character of different shades. In the first half, she entices as a prostitute and the second half she is seen as an iron willed woman battering her opponents. Priyadarshini Ram impressed as a police officer. Satyadev came up with a good performance. Ajay Gosh and Brahmanandham did justice to their roles. Rest of the characters are okay.
Technical Performances:
Puri already declared that this story is inspired from Malladi Satyanarayana’s novel. Puri should be appreciated for dealing such sensitive subject. He also made sure that there is a limit to the vulgarity in the film even though the story demands.
Coming to the negatives, the movie lacked the proper emotional depth needed to drive such sensitive points home. The characters of the film do not have that backing to make them look strong for a serious second half. Puri mark racy screenplay is missing. Dialogues are not the usual Puri like punch dialogues but this time they are accompanied with some indepth meaning. Dialogues like “Manasaara L**** kodaka ani kuda analekapotunna..Endukante unko aadadaanni thittinattu avtundi” will have an impact.
Plus Points:
1. Charmi’s performance
2. Sensible Storyline
3. Flashback
4. Puri’s pen
Minus Points:
1. Couple of unwanted songs
2. First half
3. Slow Screenplay and narration
Final Say:
Jyothi Lakshmi will end up as film which is not baked in to a good product even though the intention is good. A little more effort by Puri on the script would have made it ideal but finally he ended up squandering Charmi’s hard work.
