The legal battle surrounding Kerala Story 2 has taken a dramatic twist. Just when it seemed the film’s release would be pushed into uncertainty, the Kerala High Court Division Bench stepped in and lifted the interim stay, clearing the immediate obstacle for the makers.

Earlier, a single bench headed by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas had imposed a 15-day interim stay on the film’s release. As a result, the movie, which was originally scheduled to hit theatres on February 27, 2026, could not make it to the big screen as planned. Advance bookings were halted and ticket amounts were refunded following the court’s directive.

The stay came after petitions were filed seeking suspension of the film’s release and cancellation of its censor certificate. The petitioners argued that the film’s content could potentially disturb communal harmony and portray Kerala in a negative light. During the earlier hearing, the court also questioned whether the Central Board of Film Certification had thoroughly examined the implications of clearing a film that claims to be inspired by true events.

In a significant development, however, a Division Bench has now stayed the earlier interim order, effectively lifting the restriction on the film’s release. With the legal hurdle temporarily cleared, attention now shifts to the makers’ next move and the revised release date announcement.
