Tollywood Producers Speak Out on Strike Challenges
Tollywood’s rising producers came together for a press meet today to highlight the pressing challenges caused by the ongoing workers’ strike. Producers including SKN, Dheeraj Mogilineni, Razesh Danda, Chaitanya from Prime Show, Sharath from Chai Bisket, Anurag, Madhura Sreedhar, Maheshwar Reddy, Rakesh Varre, and others voiced their concerns and the harsh realities they face.
Producer SKN expressed, “Around 90% of our industry is made up of small films. We don’t wield power or hold influential positions — all we have is our voice. This gathering is not about groupism, but about voicing our struggles. If you want a 30% wage hike, take 50% if needed. But can anyone guarantee we’ll recover those investments through theatrical or other revenues?
We bear the financial burden, meet release deadlines, and yet many times, we go home empty-handed, with only the pride of being producers. We’re not rising producers — we’re burning producers. Outwardly we appear dignified, but inside, we struggle.
Only a few top actors earn crores, like our hero Kiran Abbavaram, who supported the film Chennai Love Story understanding the tough times. But such actors are rare. So, how can we even think about a 30% wage hike now? Ticket price increases only apply to a few films. Each craft must recognize its responsibilities, not just demand rights. If unions don’t evolve, we will work with those who fit our budgets. Filmmaking isn’t about comfort, it’s about passion. I urge the governments of both Telugu states to pay attention to the hardships of small producers.”
Adding to the conversation, Producer Chaitanya Reddy of Prime Show emphasized how the strike is severely impacting small producers. She said, “The producers’ situation is dire, not only here but worldwide. Filmmaking is suffering everywhere, yet everyone holds on to hope. Forcing producers to employ a fixed number of workers instead of letting them decide isn’t fair. Producers are creators of employment, and right now, no producer is truly happy. We hope for a quick resolution to this issue.”
