In a startling revelation, the number of UK based Indian-origin families employing private detectives to spy on their prospective grooms before marriage is growing multifold. Reports suggest that the families, and in most cases brides themselves, have been taking these ‘pre-wedding services’ from detective agencies to check the character behavior of their grooms before finalising the arranged marriages.
Usually, the cost of these detective services start from £100 for a thorough background check on the grooms. However, in a recent case, Raj Singh, a director of Lion Investigations, charged 4,500 pounds for carrying out his surveillance for several weeks.
The background check mostly starts off with finding out simple details like what car does the groom drive and how much does he drink etc. In some cases, the brides to-be even shell out more to find out the groom’s sexual relationships and if he is hiding any health and other related secrets.
In a recent case, the father of a bride to-be found out that his prospective groom from India was only marrying his daughter so that he could get an entry to the UK and that he had plans to leave his daughter once he’s settled in the UK. The surveillance cost him more than 2,500 pounds but he has saved even more by not marrying off his daughter to a cheat and even saved his daughter from suffering a heartbreak.
The business is flourishing in the UK, with nearly 20 spying requests a month from the Asian clients and mostly from the females.
