Ajith, a popular Tamil star with a significant fan base in Telugu, experienced backlash with his films Valimai and Thunivu (released as Tegimpu in Telugu) when the titles were retained in Tamil. However, in a welcome change, the makers of his upcoming film Vidaamuyarchi have announced a new Telugu title, Pattudala.
This follows a heated debate a few months ago when Superstar Rajinikanth’s film Vettaiyaan was released in Telugu with its Tamil title. The film’s team had to hold a press conference to clarify their decision to use the same title across pan-India. Despite this, Telugu audiences expressed their dissatisfaction with titles like Raayan, Thanagalan, and Kanguva. The message from the Telugu audience is clear: they want their language to be respected, and more effort should go into adapting films for the local market.
It seems that this feedback has been heard by Tamil filmmakers, as they have announced a Telugu title for Vidaamuyarchi. The film’s theatrical trailer will be launched today, and Pattudala is slated for release next month, promising a more culturally considerate approach to its Telugu audience.
