It took a long 24 years to see a Lok Sabha session functioning smooth without any interruptions and adjournments due to them. The eighth session of 16th Lok Sabha created history as it went on with smooth proceedings only after it happened last in 1990 and 1992.
A Lok Sabha senior official revealed how the 1991 10th Lok Sabha third session went on without adjournments due to interruptions and the lower house had 49 sittings on total. The speaker was then Shivraj patil. A similar stint happened in 1990 with Rabi Ray as speaker.
The latest eighth session had 13 sittings in 92 hours and 21 minutes with speaker Sumithra Mahajan, who expressed her happiness that Lower House of Parliament was not adjourned and thanked members for cooperation in achieving this feat. Not just the session went smooth, but the Lok Sabha passed 10 bills among which Insolvency and Bankruptcy code were prominent.
