Rajinikanth’s Coolie Dominates War 2 at Box Office
The big box-office battle has begun — Rajinikanth’s Coolie vs Hrithik Roshan–NTR’s War 2. Both films stormed into theatres on August 14, cashing in on the Independence Day holiday wave. And after four days, the scoreboard shows one clear winner: Rajini, the undisputed Boss!
At the domestic box office, Coolie is roaring with a massive ₹194.25 crore, while War 2 trails behind at ₹173.60 crore. On day four alone, Rajini powered through with ₹35 crore, against War 2’s ₹31 crore, widening the gap to a solid ₹20.65 crore.
The opening numbers set the tone. Coolie exploded with ₹65 crore on day one, overshadowing War 2’s ₹52.5 crore. Though NTR and Hrithik bounced back on day two with ₹57.35 crore, briefly overtaking Rajini’s ₹54.75 crore, the tables turned soon after. From day three, Rajini reclaimed dominance, earning ₹39.5 crore while War 2 slipped to ₹33.25 crore.
Sunday was no different — both slowed slightly, but Rajini still held strong at ₹35 crore, outpacing War 2’s ₹31 crore.
Globally too, Coolie is rewriting Tamil cinema records, smashing past ₹320 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, War 2 has crossed ₹215 crore, but its momentum appears to be cooling.
The verdict so far? Coolie is leading the box-office war in style, while War 2 faces an uphill battle. With the holiday weekend wrapped, week two will decide if Rajini holds his throne or if NTR and Hrithik can pull off a dramatic comeback.
