Director Kiran Tirumalasetty Faces Backlash Over Controversial Film
Film directors often earn the admiration of fans when they deliver impactful work. However, the creative freedom that comes with filmmaking can sometimes lead to controversy, especially when a movie’s content is perceived as provocative or offensive. This seems to be the case with director Kiran Tirumalasetty following the release of his latest film, Drinker Sai.
The movie, which hit theaters last weekend, attracted attention with its intriguing trailer and was particularly popular among younger audiences. However, a dramatic turn of events unfolded when Kiran was attacked by a group of individuals claiming to be fans of socialist leader Mantena Satyanarayana. The incident occurred during a media interaction outside a theater, where the mob alleged that the film distorted Mantena’s image, prompting their outrage.
Reacting to the incident, Kiran expressed regret over the unintended offense caused by his film. “It was never my intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments,” he said, calling the attack “unfortunate.” While condemning the violence against him, Kiran also acknowledged the importance of responsible storytelling.
“Physically attacking someone is unacceptable in a civil society, and such actions must be condemned unequivocally,” Kiran added. “At the same time, filmmakers must be cautious to ensure their work doesn’t provoke or offend groups unnecessarily.”
This incident has sparked widespread debate on the boundaries of creative expression and the appropriate way to address grievances in a democratic society.
