A.R. Rahman, the Oscar-winning music maestro, is once again making waves in Tollywood after a brief hiatus. Known globally for his work in films like Roja and Bombay, Rahman’s return to Telugu cinema has become the talk of the town, with top directors, stars, and production houses eager to collaborate with him. His recent work as a keyboard player under music director Koti in several successful Telugu films also adds to his deep connection with the industry.
Rahman began his career as a music director with legendary director Mani Ratnam’s Roja, making a national impact with his debut. He went on to compose for Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s Yodha, Puthiya Mugham, and for Shankar and Arjun’s Gentleman, creating music that resonated with the youth. His Telugu debut came with Nandamuri Balakrishna’s 1993 film Nippu Ravva, followed by music for films like Venkatesh’s Super Police and Dr. Rajasekhar’s Gang Master.
After a few years and intermittent projects like Nee Manasu Naaku Telusu, Rahman returned with films featuring Mahesh Babu (Naani), Emaindho Emaindho, Komuram Puli, and Sahasame Swasaga Saagipo. Following another gap, he is now working on back-to-back Telugu projects, signaling a strong comeback. Currently, he is composing music for the Pan-India film Peddi, starring global superstar Ram Charan and directed by Buchibabu, which has already generated significant buzz.
Following Peddi, Rahman is set to work on three major Telugu projects. One of these includes a high-profile project with Megastar Chiranjeevi, directed by Babi Kolly, produced on an unprecedented scale. Another project is a sports drama featuring Rowdy star Vijay Deverakonda, directed by Vikram K. Kumar of Manam fame. Reports suggest Rahman has been finalized for these films, adding further excitement.
In addition to these, Rahman is also confirmed for another major Pan-India project with Ram Charan and director Sukumar. Following the success of Rangasthalam, this collaboration is expected to be an even bigger spectacle, with a storyline reportedly surpassing Pushpa. Rahman’s involvement as music director is anticipated to elevate the film’s reach on a Pan-India scale.
After several years of relative inactivity in Telugu cinema, Rahman’s back-to-back high-profile projects have reignited industry excitement, making him the hottest music director in Tollywood once again.
