Political circles are rife with rumours that Telugu Desam Party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is contemplating fielding a fourth candidate from the party in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Andhra Pradesh.Elections will be held for four Rajya Sabha seats from AP in the month of June. Going by the numerical strength in the Assembly, the TDP will get three seats and YSR Congress party will get one.
Each candidate requires the voting of 42 MLAs. However, Naidu is said to have started moving his pawns shrewdly to deny the fourth seat to the YSRC and secure it for the TDP by fielding a fourth candidate.Naidu’s confidence stems from the fact that he would be able to lure as many MLAs as possible from the YSRC, so that the latter does not have enough strength to win the RS seat. Already, around a dozen MLAs have joined the TDP and by the time, RS elections take place, it can “procure” another 10-15 MLAs from YSRC.
But, Naidu has already spent huge amounts on “luring” the YSRC MLAs and he needs a financially strong candidate to “purchase” more MLAs. So, he is learnt to have asked former minister Aadala Prabhakar Reddy, a rich contractor, to contest the RS elections as fourth candidate on behalf of the TDP and it is his responsibility to spend money on luring the rival party candidates.
Aadala, who had already lost huge money in the last Lok Sabha elections from Nellore, is reluctant to contest the RS polls as fourth contest, as the chances of victory are bleak. However, if there is a possibility of more YSRC MLAs defecting to the TDP on their own, he would consider the contest and take the risk, sources said.
