Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan is all set to return to the silver screen with his latest film Sitaare Zameen Par, an official remake of the Spanish hit Champions. While the film is set for release tomorrow, there’s an unexpected dip in excitement—advance bookings are reportedly underwhelming, raising eyebrows in the industry.
Aamir’s last outing Laal Singh Chaddha failed to impress at the box office, and it seems to have cast a shadow over his latest release. Despite a flurry of promotional events and media appearances, Sitaare Zameen Par hasn’t yet generated the momentum one would expect from an Aamir Khan project.
Interestingly, this time around, Aamir has been unusually outspoken in the media. From confirming his collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj to addressing his cameo in Coolie, commenting on OTT platforms, and even discussing his long-held passion project Mahabharat, Aamir’s interviews have covered everything—except the core theme of his current film. This may have led to a disconnect with the audience.
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par follows the emotional journey of a basketball coach sentenced to community service after a DUI. Assigned to train a group of neurodivergent adults, the coach undergoes a personal transformation as he learns from his players. The story is filled with heart and carries a powerful message about inclusion and second chances.
Whether this emotional sports drama can help Aamir regain his box-office standing remains to be seen. For now, all eyes are on the film’s opening and the audience’s verdict.
