The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has transferred Abhishek Singh, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre and CEO of the IndiaAI Mission, from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
As per the order issued on March 31, 2026, Singh will now take over as Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) under the Ministry of Education. He previously also served as Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The ACC has not yet announced a replacement for his role at MeitY.
The transfer comes shortly after the IndiaAI Impact Summit, which brought together global technology leaders but reportedly faced criticism over logistical and security concerns. The move also comes at a time when the NTA is under increased scrutiny over the conduct of national-level computer-based examinations, making Singh’s new role particularly significant.
This reshuffle is part of a broader set of senior-level administrative changes approved by the ACC. Among other key appointments, Chanchal Kumar (1992-batch IAS officer, Bihar cadre) has been appointed as Secretary of Information and Broadcasting. Sanjay Lohiya has been named Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and will also serve as Special Secretary in the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.
With this transition, attention is now on MeitY to appoint a new IndiaAI Mission chief as India continues to advance its digital and artificial intelligence initiatives.
