‘Accidents Due To Good Roads’

In a shocking and bizarre remark, Karnataka deputy CM Govind Karjol said accidents occur due to good roads but not because of bad condition. This deputy holds the portfolio of Public Works Department and social welfare. His comments came when there is a chaotic response from all over the country on the new Motor Vehicle Act 2019 and citizens are demanding good roads first and go for penalty.

Reacting on the uproar, Govind Karjol said, “Every year, around 10,000 accidents are reported in Karnataka. A majority of the accidents occur on highways. The media blames it on bad roads. But, I believe it is due to good roads.”

Maybe as per his analysis, people drive rashly on the highway and so the mishaps takes place. But this statement is neither completely deniable nor agreeable and we must take out many instances where people lost their lives due to fast and rash driving.

On the heavy penalties, Govind said the government will discuss this in the cabinet and will try to bring them down. “I don’t support levying high fines. We will make a decision on the revision of the fines during cabinet meeting,” added Karjol.
