Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli celebrated the Telugu community’s achievements at the Padma Awards on X (formerly Twitter) by congratulating Nandamuri Balakrishna, Shekhar Kapur, and Ajith on receiving the Padma Bhushan.

Rajamouli praised Balakrishna’s cinematic journey, lauded Kapur for his enduring contributions to Indian cinema, and commended Ajith for his inspirational influence both on and off-screen.

However, Rajamouli’s focus on the Telugu community sparked a debate, with some critics questioning the need for regional emphasis. Comments like “All are Indians, why focus on Telugu?” highlighted concerns about fostering unnecessary divisions in national honors.

This year’s Padma Awards recognized notable talents across various fields, with seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri recipients. The honorees include late musicians Sharda Sinha and Pankaj Udhas, Bharatnatyam dancer Shobana, actor Anant Nag, and singer Arijit Singh.
