Africa Becomes Tollywood’s New Filming Destination

There was a time when Telugu filmmakers passionately sought real-world beauty, traveling far and wide to capture stunning natural backdrops. But with changing times, tighter production schedules, and the convenience of indoor sets, outdoor shoots gradually took a back seat. Now, the trend seems to be making a strong comeback — and Africa is fast emerging as Tollywood’s next big destination.

Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated global adventure, tentatively titled #Globetrotter, recently wrapped a schedule in South Africa. Blending action, adventure, and mythology, this ambitious project is already generating massive excitement. Reports suggest that the film’s title — rumored to be Varanasi — will be unveiled at a grand Hyderabad event on November 16.

Meanwhile, NTR and Prashanth Neel’s mega project Dragon is gearing up for an extensive schedule in North Africa. The team will begin a location recce in Tunisia from October 27, followed by key action sequences planned across exotic locales. NTR is expected to join the Hyderabad schedule by the end of November before heading to Africa for the next phase.

Both #Globetrotter and Dragon are monumental action dramas mounted on massive scales. Their African connection marks a fresh chapter in Telugu cinema’s visual storytelling — signaling a renewed love for real-world landscapes and a bold step toward global cinematic horizons.
